We get a lot of questions from visitors asking us about having a car in Old San Juan, where to park, and if there are garages and street parking. The answer is YES! There are both. Being a 500-year-old city, Old San Juan’s streets are beautiful but were built before cars, so parking can be daunting. But if you have a little patience and you know where to look, parking is a snap!
When it comes to parking in Old San Juan, there are two main options: street parking and garages.
Street Parking
Street Parking is available throughout the city, but your best chance to find it is very early in the morning on weekends. Much of Old San Juan is resident parking only, and they do ticket, so you shouldn’t risk it unless you’re prepared to pay a hefty up to $250 fine. There are some free public parking spaces on Avenida de la Constitucion as you head out of Old San Juan in front of Casa Espana. You may also find non-resident parking on some parts of Calle Norzagaray closer to La Perla. Do not park in any yellow or white-painted curb zones, those are for taxis and commercial vehicles.

Garages are your best bet when parking in Old San Juan, and unless there’s a big event going on, parking is inexpensive and plentiful. Parking garages are located at Calle del Cristo and San Justo Street, as well as near La Princesa and on the corner of San Francisco/Casa Blanca. Parking costs range from $2 to $7 per hour, depending on the time of day and the location.
