Explore the Forts

Exploring the forts is an activity for the whole family. The fortresses El Morro & Castillo San Cristobal are open to the public with a small fee for entry. You can choose to go on a guided tour or just explore the rich history yourself. There are many things to see in both forts, you can find the many tunnels used in colonial times and discover hidden rooms. These two historic forts offer a glimpse into Puerto Rico’s past and are sure to delight both children and adults alike.

One of the activities you can do with your kids is kite flying on the expansive greens that surround El Morro. Many vendors sell kites of all shapes and sizes in the area, and it’s a fun and inexpensive activity that your kids are sure to love. The strong ocean breeze makes it a perfect spot for flying kites, and the views of the fort are breathtaking.

Parque de las Palomas

If you’re looking for a unique experience for the kids, definitely check out Parque de las Palomas. It’s a popular spot for families with young children and anyone looking for a peaceful oasis in the middle of the city. Feeding the pigeons is the main attraction at Parque de las Palomas. Bags of birdseed are available for purchase from vendors in the park, and the pigeons will flock to anyone with food to offer. Children in particular tend to love this activity, as the birds will often eat directly from their hands. It’s important to note, however, that visitors should be gentle and respectful with the birds, and avoid any behavior that could harm them. In addition to the pigeons, the park boasts beautiful views of San Juan Bay and the surrounding city.
